AAU (2004), Hamilton-Fairfield League 2002-2004 (Outstanding Senior Award))
Short Bio
My name is Allen. I work at a Juvenile Detention Center where I work with teen boys every day now for two years. I enjoy working with teens and I have a passion for basketball and coaching teen boys through it to help them with life lessons and also help them improve in their game. I am attending Miami University (ohio) and majoring in Public Administration with a Coaching Minor in Basketball. I am interested in a coaching job or coaching contacts who could offer me advice or networking.
I have played in high school summer camps and leagues and also played in high school leagues and in AAU. I coached a fifth grade boys elementary team and also a sixth grade elementary team to the finals. I have coached sixth and seventh grade AAU teams. I have also ran open gyms and coached a seventh and eight grade boys summer league basketbal team.
I believe the individuals should put the team first and look at how they can contribute to the team. I believe in Dean Smith's style of coaching: Play Hard, Play Smart, Play Together. I encourage my athletes to push it to the next level and look for ways to always improve. My teams are fundamentally sound and work for the good of the team. My biggest coaching role models would have to be Dean Smith from North Carolina, Coach from Duke, Tom Izzo from Michigan State, David Odom, and Joe Dumars. I love unselfish and team basketball. I feel that these individuals have either revolutionized their teams or coaching styles.
wow, looks like alot on your plate. Being ambitious and relentless int the pursuit of your dream is key to being successful. Look to your local school districts and start going to games, introduce yourself and tell the head coach what a good job he/she did. keep in touch with them and offer your time for assisting. You probably wont get paid but it is a foot in the door. Then the next season may open an opportunity for you.
Go to as many clinics and/or camps you can afford; both financially and personally being married and all:) The more you are involved the better your chances of getting in with a head coach.
Hope it helps and goodluck
Dear Coach Bellman, Coach Mac here. Thanks for the invite. I have coach men and women at all levels from little kids to university. I would be happy to talk with you about basketball and the "thrills and spills" that come our way as coaches. If you have a question, I will try and answer it for you. Congratulations on the fine work you are doing with young people. Keep it up! Coach Mac
