J Howley replied to Hoop Coach's discussion Law Protecting Coaches from Parents
"A couple of other tangential/devil's advocate thoughts on the situation: 1) Such a law could quickly blow up on the authors; suppose a coach engaged in some clearly inappropriate (i.e., firing-level) behavior and a large number of the parents…"

J Howley replied to Hoop Coach's discussion Law Protecting Coaches from Parents
"The idea (at least theoretically) is fine but in actual practice any AD or principal really wanting to get rid of a coach will be able to do so. They will dig up/cook up some 'legitimate' reason to act upon. In fact, all the complaining…"

Brian Godziszewski replied to Hoop Coach's discussion Bench Celebrations
"I'm referring to it as a humorous video. I also am not going to judge someone's practice habits or skill level with how they act on the bench. I would also argue on the high level DIII teams their absolutely is a big difference from player…"

Gordon Kaplan replied to Hoop Coach's discussion Bench Celebrations
"So are we evaluating it as "bench decorum", as a viral video, or as a recruiting tool? From a bench decorum standpoint it would not be something I'd want my team to do and they wouldn't because the bench is as much a reflection…"

Gordon Kaplan replied to Hoop Coach's discussion Law Protecting Coaches from Parents
"Entitlement is everywhere. Does that mean we, as coaches shouldn't refine and evolve? No. Everything's a teaching moment and parents deserve the opportunity to learn too. So they can be engaged in the process and we can use more metrics…"

Tom Izzo on Social Media

Michigan State Coach Tom Izzo has never been shy about his distaste for Twitter and other Social Media sites but in his most recent article he brought up a really interesting point:"How can you trust the people patting you on the back today, when obviously some of them were killing you just last month? And these are "fans."" I totally agree with this assessment.  How does a student-athlete know if the picture he takes with a "fan" in the library is really for a fan or just some jerk that wants…See More

Benches Clear in Duke vs UNC......Team Manager Game

Everyone knows that the Duke-UNC rivalry is one of the most heated rivalries in sports. The tone is set by the competitive nature's of Coach K and Roy Williams trickling down into the assistant coaches and players.  Simply put, if you attend one of these schools you hate the other.  What I was unaware of was how serious the team managers take the rivalry.

Based on that…

Mike DeCourcy of the Sporting News is pitching a pretty radical idea for dealing with the money issues that plague big time collegiate sports.  DeCourcy's answer is in his own words "simple" and "obvious". Create a Major in Sports.…
