I have been coaching women's basketball for 16 years now; 6 years at the high school level and 10 years at the college level.
I have had the plearsure and honor of starting the women's basketball program from scratch here at Nova Southeastern University. Ten years later, our program transitioned from NAIA II to NCAA II and just won the 2008 Sunshine State Conference regular season and tournament Championships and made our first appearance in the NCAA tournament!
Coach, Thanks for the add. I just recently took the assistant womens basketball position at Colby Community College in Kansas. If you are needing anything in the future let me know. My email is coachbradphillips@yahoo.com. My cell number is 870-378-7203.
Thanks,
Coach Brad Phillips

Hello Coach Rule...
Do you know any coaches in Texas in the Collegiate Level? I am anticipating my graduation in May 2009 with a Batchelors of Science in Kiesiology. I am currently looking for a Graduate Assistantship Position in a basketball program. I got an offer to go to Texas A&M in Kingsville but recently found out that the basketball team lost its dorm room for its Graduate Assistant and my wife and I would have to find an apartment. The dorm room was a good selling point for me since we would have to move from San Antonio, TX. My grades are great as I am at a 3.65 overall and I have two years experience coaching at a community college in San Antonio with a cumulative record of 30-8. I appreciate any guidance you can give and have a happy 2009.
Thanks for advice Coach! By the way I am having an open gym Sept 27 here in Dallas, with some of he best local talent around. Would you be interested in coming down for a day?
Thanks again,
Micah

Hi Coach! Wow, that is a tough question to answer and ultimately, only you know what is best for your situation. You should really ask yourself what your future coaching goals are long term. At what level do you want to coach in college? If you have asperations of coaching at the DI level, it might be difficult to make the move from DIII to DI. If you don't care what level you coach at or what your salary might be, than this might be the opportunity you have been waiting for. But because the rules are so different from DIII to DI and DII it might be difficult to get hired from DIII to a higher level unless you have the right contacts and connections. You really need to look at your personal situation as well, with family concerns, relocation requirements, time committment, etc... There are so many factors that you need to consider... spend some time and really think about what is best for you at this time in your career. You will know the answer and make the decision based on what is best for you and your family.
I hope this has helped some. I know it is a tough decision. If it's the right time for you, the right situaiton, the right coaching staff, the right everything... go for it... if you have any reservations, than don't rush into any decision. I coached at the high school level for 6 years before I made the move to college and I have had no regrets.
Hello Coach,I would like your professional opinion, I have been coaching high school girl’s varsity the pass 3yrs and I have 3 underclassmen that are being highly recruited. But recently, I was offered a volunteer position at a D3 school to be assistant women’s coach. My goal is to become a college coach, would it be a better move to college now or stay in high school until these players finish up?
