Grad Assistant Blog - Thanksgiving Break

Well first of all Happy late Thanksgiving to all! Every year this holiday becomes more and more meaningful to me as I realize how much I have to be thankful for. I have the luxury of great parents, a healthy life, and the opportunity to take the necessary steps towards my ultimate dream career. Since it was thanksgiving, our team had some time off, but only after our game on Tuesday. We had an away game on Tuesday, and it was a chance to go to 2-0 in conference and 6-1 overall. We started off… Continue

Staying Busy - Grad Assistant Blog

Well our team is off to a solid start. On Tuesday we blew out a team by about 40 points. Then, today was perhaps our biggest test of the season. We began our conference play against a pretty good team. We had a 15 point lead at halftime. Our opponent cut it down to two before we had a late run and ended up winning by about ten, to start our conference play with a win, and going 5-1 overall in the season. I really felt like I had a solid contribution to our team pulling this win out. At one… Continue

Revenge on a team- part 2

Revenge on a team- part 2

It was a 3 team tournament that we were involved in, and our games were on Thursday and Saturday. So Friday was an opportunity to watch the opponent that we would be playing on Saturday. We had a short practice afterwards, mainly going through our opponents plays, and then it was Saturday and game day again. We were playing a team that was winless on the year, most of which were games that they were blown out in. We were very confident going in. We led the… Continue

Revenge on a team - part 1

Revenge on a team - Part 1

Well I hope everyone is off to a good start with their seasons! We had about a two week break after our first two games before we played again. This game us lots of preparation time and we were also able to put in some quick hitters and solidify our defensive principles.

Early in the week, the head coach and I drove about 3 hours away to go scout the opponent that we would be playing for a second time this season. On Thursday we were scheduled to… Continue

NCAA Division III Head Coach Salary

More than half of the 714 poll responses fell into a $30,000 range between $35,000 and $65,000. I am not sure if the results took into account what coaches might make for teaching classes or if the responses were based strictly on a basketball salary. Either way it seems like a great quality of life.…

Grad Assistant - Different tasks part 2

The following two days were focused on recruiting aspects. Since we don't have a game for a while, there wasn't too much film to edit, or scouting reports to evaluate, or teams to scout at this time. What we needed to do was focus on getting recruits and branching out to teams and coaches. On Wednesday I spent about an hour putting address labels on our posters to send out to recruits. This helps attract recruits, lets them know when we play if they want to watch, and also keeps their minds on… Continue
