Relationships in Coaching

Great article on ESPN.com about College Coaching Relationships. What do you guys think about the relationship factor in coaching?  I tend to agree with this article that a lot of the up and coming guys are more about hustling and less about creating lasting relationships.

Frank Martin Salary

Coach Frank Martin is getting a boost in pay at his new gig at South Carolina.  Congrats to Coach Martin!  Sucks for Kansas State.

"Earlier Monday, a source with direct knowledge of the situation said South Carolina was reviewing a potential $2.05 million deal to hire Martin. Martin's Kansas State contract paid him $1.45 million a year. The source said the South Carolina board was reviewing the proposal and, if the framework of the deal was accepted, a formal offer would…

Top 25 Non-D1 Basketball Coaches

Pretty cool list put together by College Insider. It ranks the top 25 college basketball coaches not in NCAA Division 1.  A couple notable coaches are left out such as the NCAA all time wins leader Herb Magee at Philadelphia University, but the author explains why before presenting his list.  I'm not sure I understand the logic behind it but it's still cool to…

NCAA Basketball Coaches on the Hot Seat

Eamonn Brennan from ESPN.com wrote a great post on 10 NCAA college basketball coaches on the hot seat.  Rather then write my own post I am just going to link to his.  He did a much better job then I would do.

Great Story from D3 Game

This is the kind of stuff that makes small college athletics awesome. A basketball player that had a debilitating stroke as a freshman is not only allowed to remain on the team for four years but also becomes a team captain.  His motivational story is capped off by the events in this article.

Product Review :: Intrepid Sportswear Basketball Uniforms

Intrepid Sportswear is a Seattle based company that claims to have "the best unis in the game".  I get the impression they might be on to something.  The company recently submitted a set of rather large(they were made for an NBA player to wear in a photo shoot) uniforms for us to review.   My first impression was that the uniforms are good looking and durable.  The kind of uniforms that I could see my frosh team wearing in 10…

Entrepreneur Turned Pro Hoops Player Buys Team

This is actually a pretty interesting story about a guy, Adam House, that sold a tech company and ended up pursuing a professional basketball career.  After making the team an opportunity came to buy a stake in the team which he did.  So essentially the guy is a reserve player and also the CEO.  We should probably ask this guy to help us grow HoopCoach but unfortunately House played basketball at Brother Rice High School a rival in my playing days and also as a coach.…

Great story about the company behind the only product banned by the NBA.  Athletic Propulsion Labs created a basketball shoe that increases a players vertical leap by 1-3 inches.  Their Load and Launch Technology was deemed to be an unfair advantage by the NBA.  The article is about how the company used a seemingly piece of bad…
