Assistant Director of Academic Support Services | East Tennessee State University
East Tennessee State University, located in Johnson City, TN and a member of the Southern Conference, is currently accepting applications for the position of Assistant Director of Academic Support Services. Under the direct supervision of the Assistant AD for Academic Support Services, this position’s primary function will be to provide academic support services to the men’s and women’s basketball team and other teams as assigned. This includes planning and coordinating academic support for student-athletes in these sports to maximize their use of University academic support resources. This position will provide ongoing academic counseling, Southern Conference and NCAA continuing eligibility education and monitoring. This individual will also oversee the study hall program for their assigned sports. This position is responsible for semester advising, course selection, and recruiting visits; preforming initial eligibility evaluations for perspective student-athletes, communicating with advisors and campus constituents, assisting in progress towards degree assessments, APR, GSR, and certification; assists with major/minor choices and graduation planning; communicates with University and Athletics Administrators; assists with NCAA eligibility determinations and recommendations for Summer sessions; is responsible for proper and diligent record keeping, team meetings, routine and frequent communication with Coaching staff; tracking grade progress; identifies at risk students and targeted groups for workshops, tutoring, mentoring and other program events. The Assistant Director will develop and maintain a collegial relationship with ETSU faculty, admissions, and financial aid staff and university staff and instruct student-athletes on how to use D2L and campus academic support resources. This position also handles books and supervises SAAC. This position assists the Assistant AD for Academics on a daily basis and is responsible for other duties as assigned by the Assistant AD for Academics. Candidate should have a thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of Academic Advising for Student-athletes and individual counseling techniques. The individual should have the ability to obtain such knowledge of the best practices, procedures and activities for the University, Undergraduate Studies, and Intercollegiate Athletics. The individual should have experience with evaluating NCAA Eligibility, rules, regulations, recruiting visits, violations and best practices to avoid violations. We are looking for a self-starter who can carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals; and operates standard office equipment and software including but not limited to Banner, D2L, ARMS, and Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Outlook, and Excel).
