The College of New Jersey, a member of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC), seeks applications for the position of Head Men’s Basketball Coach. This is a twelve month position that resides within the Department of Athletics, Division of Student Affairs. The position reports to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs & Executive Director of Athletics (AVP) and Recreation.
The head coach is responsible for the direction, instruction, supervision, and coaching of the MEN’S BASKETBALL program and the oversight and development of assistant coaches. Responsibilities include the overall administration of the program including, but not limited to, operations of the assigned sport, compliance with all NCAA and NJAC regulations, adherence to the standards of the college, budget management, academic support and integrity, competition scheduling, and the recruitment of qualified student-athletes. The position serves as a site manager for home and/or away games including NJAC and NCAA post season contests. The Head Men’s Basketball Coach is also responsible for all aspects of a competitive NCAA DIII program, including recruitment of qualified student-athletes, practice planning, player-development, budget management, fund-raising, alumni development, assistant coach oversight and an understanding of student-athletes’ commitment to academics. The position will include administrative responsibilities in addition to other duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs & Executive Director of Athletics.
Minimum Qualifications for this position include:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
A minimum of three years of successful college level basketball coaching experience.
Knowledge of and compliance with, NCAA and NJAC rules and regulations.
Ability to effectively manage a budget.
A valid driver’s license.
Certification in first aid, CPR and AED.
Preferred qualifications include a Master’s Degree in a related field, the ability to collaborate with other areas of the College, understanding of the values of a residential liberal arts education and excellent communication, organizational and effective leadership skills.
The state title for this position is Assistant Director 2, Range 24. It is aligned with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) bargaining unit. This position includes a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental and prescription, pension as well as generous sick and vacation leave.
