HEAD COACH, MEN’S BASKETBALL This is a part-time position that reports to the Director of Athletics, FSA and Student Affairs. The Head Coach will work closely with the athletics staff to ensure compliance with all NJCAA rules and regulations in areas including but not limited to: recruiting, eligibility, scheduling, travel, fundraising, and preparing student athletes for competition. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY: As the Men’s basketball head coach must teach basketball techniques and skill at a level appropriate for collegiate competition, organize and develop a comprehensive practice schedule , recruit student- athletes in accordance with college policies and NJCAA regulations, submitting advance travel requests, assist in purchasing appropriate supplies and equipment , fundraise to help supplement men’s basketball budget, and develop a strategic plan for men’s basketball to be highly competitive, promote academics, and involvement in the community. They must also coordinate the maintaining and submitting of statistics for reporting to Region XV and the NJCAA and archival purposes.

SPECIFIC RESPONISBILITIES: Follow and understand all the rules and regulations regarding WCC athletics in addition to the NJCAA rule governing basketball, especially in matters pertaining to eligibility and recruitment of student-athletes. Be familiar with all recruiting guidelines while utilizing ethical standards and emphasizing the positive aspects of WCC. Work with the athletic department to track the academic progress of your athletes making sure of their academic progress. Understand and continue to update your knowledge of NJCAA eligibility rules and regulations. Help develop a code of ethics and ensure enforcement for the team while understanding penalties that could be faced. Be responsible for teaching, coaching and conditioning relative to your sport. It is imperative to accept responsibility of keeping student athletes safe from unsafe conditions related to facilities and equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associate’s Degree required, Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred. Candidate must be passionate about basketball and aspiring to a career in coaching. Must be energetic, organized, self-starter, with strong communication skills. In addition, Must demonstrate knowledge of NJCAA compliance rules. The successful candidate shall be a person of integrity with high ethical standards, and exhibit a strict allegiance to the college, athletic department and NJCAA rules and regulations, as well as a commitment to student achievement in the classroom.  Must be dedicated to athletic and academic excellence for the purpose of continually providing positive experiences to student-athletes.


* Coaching experience at the college level or above.

* Demonstrated success in recruiting athletes.

* Demonstrated success in coaching based on overall record, performance and ability to steadily improve programs and maintaining success.

* A track record of supporting overall academic success among team members.

* Established network of professional contacts to draw upon for the purposes of recruiting and exploring opportunities for students to move on to 4-year colleges.

*Must have a current valid driver’s license and be willing and able to drive team vans.
