As a member of the coaching staff responsibilities include working closely with the Head Coach to develop and coach an NCAA Division III athletic team and assist with all phases of directing and managing a successful program. Actively ensure compliance with all NCAA and Ithaca College rules and regulations; participate in establishing goals and objectives for each season; recruiting and assessing prospective student athletes for the program. Reflect Ithaca College’s academic mission and commitment to building a diverse and inclusive community. Design and provide instruction on individual and team skills and physical health and safety to student athletes. Serve as a support to the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards by serving as a formal and informal administrative hearing officer in conduct cases.
Duties may include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned.
-Participate in planning and conducting in-season and where appropriate and permissible pre-season, non-traditional and post-season team/individual athlete practices and competitions; using discretion and independent judgment develop and implement conditioning programs, practice, and competition related activities for teams and or/individuals.
-Design instructions for individual student athletes and for specific team needs, and teach proper skills, skill development, and team concepts to student athletes as assigned by the head coach.
-Provide student athletes with instruction regarding physical health and safety and promote student athlete safety and well-being.
-Analyze opponent performance, provide recommendations for strategies and create scouting reports for utilization during competition.
-Participate in establishing goals and objectives for each season in consultation with the head coach; complete various reports and establish and maintain accurate records of all team data and statistics.
-Actively develop recruitment strategies, in accordance with NCAA bylaws, identify students to recruit and high schools to visit; provide recommendations to the head coach and carry out correspondence with prospective student athletes by mail, telephone, and e-mail
-Evaluate and participate in the selection of student athletes to include assessment of individual academic eligibility and overall skill levels; coordinate the process of selecting, maintaining, monitoring, and evaluating team members to include athlete talent assessment, academic eligibility, and individual sport performance.
-Assist with monitoring the academic progress of assigned student athletes and ensure compliance with NCAA, College, and conference regulations; provide council to student athletes regarding goals, academic success and other personal and sport related issues.
-Participate in campus visits and various meetings with recruits.
-Provide assistance with establishing and arranging practice and competition schedules; assist with appropriate travel arrangements have been made to include mode of transportation, lodging, and meals; submit an itinerary to the Associate Director as scheduled.
-Assist with the distribution and recovery of all equipment and uniforms. Work with the Equipment Manager to establish and maintain an inventory control system; recommend the purchase or replacement of uniforms and equipment.
-Serve as a support to the office of Student Conduct and Community Standards by serving as a formal and informal administrative hearing officer in low level conduct cases to support the needs of the Residence Halls for overflow conduct cases.
-Evaluate, ascertain, and adjudicate complaints and allegations of violations of the student code of conduct and the residential life rules and regulations.
-Serve on the Student Conduct Committee and support, coordinate and assist with training for the Student Conduct Review Board members.
-Serve as a supporting staff member for on-call emergencies during breaks and holidays.
-Serve as a liaison for Athletics and Student Conduct to share essential information from both areas.
-Assist with Case Creation in Maxient, Health & Safety and others. The online platform to manage cases.
-Attend Student Conduct & Community Standards monthly department meetings and attend Residence Life & Conduct Department meetings
-Aid/assist with major Residential Life openings and closings as needed.
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years related experience; demonstrated ability to assist with planning and conducting pre-season, in-season and non-traditional and post-season team/individual athlete practices and competitions; experience recruiting athletes, scheduling, and coordinating special events or athletic contest, excellent organizational, interpersonal skills, and strong attention to detail are required. Cultural competence and effective communication skills are required. Master’s degree or progress towards an advanced degree and previous experience working in a college or university athletics department is highly desired. Ability and willingness be trained, to learn and ability to grasp new concepts. Ability to be fair and consistent in their hearing practices; set priorities, balance a large workload, multitask, adhere to student schedules, and meet deadlines; commit to equity and social justice; present a high degree of professional and personal integrity, commitment to ethical values, and respect for privacy and confidentiality; counsel, advise, and refer individual and groups of students; multitask; maintain flexibility and adaptability; use a personal computer and knowledge of Microsoft Office; draw valid conclusions and/or develop appropriate alternatives where applicable; analyze and solve problems; assume responsibility and work independently, effectively, and positively in an environment characterized by change and growth; and understand complex problems and collaborate to explore alternative solutions. Excellent organizational and time management skills and flexibility in meeting with students (days, nights, weekends) required.
