Senior Associate Athletic Director, Communications | UCLA Intercollegiate Athletics

All applicants should demonstrate the following abilities: Preferred working experience of 5-7 years as head of communications/public relations department or progressively increasing experience within sports related industry or Power 5 athletic department; Experience at a university or professional sports media related program that would include sports information, media relations, digital, social, and athletic communications is strongly preferred; Demonstrated management skills; Superior public relations skills, including outstanding interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, faculty, administrators, media, Pac-12 and NCAA officials; Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment to handle sensitive and confidential information/material with discretion; Demonstrated detailed knowledge of Southern California, PacĀ­12 area and national print and electronic media and the ability to communicate easily with the media, as well as UCLA student-athletes, coaches, staff and administrators; Ability to work effectively with a variety of people including various stakeholders of the program and institution; Demonstrated ability to interact diplomatically with individuals of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds; Must have exceptional skill to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; Understanding of various sports and their operations as well as the history of UCLA and UCLA Athletics is encouraged; Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize assignments and work independently to complete assignments despite various deadlines, competing requirements and changing priorities; Demonstrated ability to perform under stress and maintain composure in the face of resistance, indifference and hostility; Demonstrated ability to operate a computer with working knowledge of various computer software systems; Knowledge and understanding of University policies and procedures, especially at a state institution; Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to comply with department, University, PacĀ­12 Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations; Working knowledge of media markets, Los Angeles and/or large media market preferred; Working knowledge of current social media networks, i.e. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc…and the ability to remain current on new trends in social media, including mobile video and graphics; Ability to develop concise and consistent strategy as needed for sports and department overall; Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred; Ability to analyze situations and systems, identify problems and implement solutions impartially and fairly, and have the ability to make decisions on immediate problems within prescribed scope of authority, based on knowledge of policies and procedures, including pertinent NCAA rules and regulations. General knowledge of financial and personnel policies, principles and procedures in a University setting with demonstrated skill in hiring, training and managing employees to perform a variety of tasks.
