Sideline Dribbling Drills

Players pair up with a ball and line up on the sideline.  One player from each pair dribbles toward the other sideline as they approach the midway point a coach yells out a specific move such as “crossover” or “inside out”.  The players continue to the sideline then turn around and come back.  Coaches yell another move as they approach the midway point.  Coach can also hold up their fingers and have player call out how many to reinforce making move with head up. When they return to their starting point they pass the ball to their partner and the drill continues.  See the diagram or the animation below for clarification.

Here are a few suggested moves to incorporate:

  • Crossover
  • Inside-Out
  • Stop and Go
  • Stutter step
  • Between the Legs
  • Behind the Back
  • Spin
  • Pull back Crossover
  • Combine any two moves
