Syracuse – a basic zone offense

zone offense

Syracuse is a zone offense(I have no idea why that is the name the Hoop Coach Playbook user chose but I see the irony) that uses a weak side wing to flash the high post instead of a post player.  The offense is nothing fancy but it checks all the boxes of an effective zone offense by creating opportunities to get the ball in the middle of the zone. The offense is pretty easy to teach so it could be a good secondary offense if you already have something in place.  I liked to use it as a wrinkle to keep the defense off balance by attacking the high post from a different spot or in instances where our post players weren’t effective on the offensive end.  Take a look at the animation and let us know in the comments below what you think.
