The Spread Pick and Roll with Cutters is a man-to-man continuity that starts in a standard Horns set, flows into a spread ball screen, and chains together back-screens and baseline cuts before resetting into a mirrored Horns — so you can run the whole sequence again from the other side.

Starting Formation: Horns

  • 1 has the ball up top.
  • 4 and 5 are at the elbows.
  • 2 and 3 are in the corners.

Step-by-Step Breakdown

  1. Open the floor. 5 back-screens for 4, who cuts through the key to the right baseline. 2 lifts to the wing while 1 dribbles left to set up the entry.
  2. Into the ball screen. The point guard sets up just left of center and 5 screens to the right of the on-ball defender.
  3. Read the screen. Off the screen, 1 can pull up, drive, hit 5 on the roll, or pass to 3 on the wing.
  4. Feed the roll. On this read, 1 passes to 3, who looks inside to 5 on the roll or in the post.
  5. Back-screen for the corner. 5 can shoot, kick back to 3, or wait. Meanwhile 4 back-screens for 2, who cuts off it for a pass from 5.
  6. Back-screen for the point. If 2 has no shot, 4 steps to the elbow and back-screens for 1, who looks for a short jumper. 2 passes to 1 and clears to the left baseline.
  7. Baseline runner. 2 runs the baseline off 5 to the corner, pulling help and isolating 1. 4 moves to screen for 3.
  8. Counter reads. If 1 has nothing, the ball goes to 3 up top or to 5 flashing to the mid-post.
  9. C-cut. As a late option, 4 c-cuts off the elbow while 5 screens. The pass to 4 comes from 3 or 1. 1 lifts to the wing, passes to 4, then screens for 3 if there’s no shot.
  10. Reset. 4 passes to 3 and returns to the elbow — now mirrored from the start. 3 swings back to 1, who runs it all again from the flipped side.
